Tom Weston-Jones of “MI-5” will star as an Irish-immigrant cop in the aftermath of the Civil War. He’s trying to keep the peace in Five Points as well as search for information about the disappearance of his wife and the death of his daughter. Also in the cast are Anastasia Griffith (“Royal Pains,” “Damages”) and Franka Potente (“The Bourne Supremacy,” “Run Lola Run”) as a madam.

BBC America has released a photo for its first original scripted drama, Copper, set in 1860s New York. The above snapshot of Kevin Ryan and Copper‘s lead, British MI-5 actor Tom Weston-Jones, was posted by Entertainment Weekly‘s James Hibberd over the weekend. And with the new pic comes a premiere date: Sunday, August 19 at 9/8c. Weston-Jones plays Kevin Corcoran, an Irish-American cop patrolling the rough Five Points neighborhood while trying to solve the mystery behind his wife’s disappearance and his daughter’s death. Ryan plays Corcoran’s closest friend and detective partner. The series is created and executive-produced by Tom Fontana (Homicide: Life on the Street) and Will Rokos (Monster’s Ball, Southland), with Barry Levinson, Glen Salzman, and Cineflix Studios president Christina Wayne also serving as executive producers. WATCH: Teaser Released for BBC America’s ‘Copper’ | Anglophenia | BBC America

BBC America has released a first glimpse at its first original scripted drama,Copper, in a new teaser, which you can watch below. Set in 1860s New York City, the 10-part drama follows Kevin Corcoran (played by British MI-5 star Tom Weston-Jones), an rugged Irish immigrant cop working the city’s notorious Five Points neighborhood. Copper will also delve into the worlds of posh Fifth Avenue and the burgeoning African-American community of northern Manhattan.

The pedigree of the show is quite strong: Emmy winner Tom Fontana, Academy Award-nominee Will Rokos (Monster’s Ball, Academy Award-winner Barry Levinson, and Cineflix’s Christina Wayne (who developed Mad Men at AMC) are producers.
